Stroman, who turns 24 in May, will get a second opinion from Dr. James Andrews but the expectation is that he is done for the year.
The news is a significant blow for the Blue Jays organization, which will have to lean on the aging R.A. Dickey and Mark Buehrle to carry the rotation
Poised to be a breakout star in 2015, Stroman was 11-6 with a 3.65 ERA, a 1.17 WHIP and a 111/28 K/BB ratio in 131 2/3 innings across 20 starts and six relief appearances as a rookie last season.
His 2.84 FIP and 1.171 WHIP were comparable to that of 2014 All-Star Max Scherzer, who had a 2.85 FIP and 1.175 WHIP.
