“We’ve lost confidence in the system that elects our leaders,” the actor wrote on Saturday. “79 million Americans believe election was rigged, the results fraudulent. We need an in-person-only-paper ballot re-vote, especially in the States where flagrant irregularities have occurred. No accuracy, no democracy!” The tweet has been labeled as disputed.
Trump, however, appeared to love the idea. He quoted Quaid’s tweet on Tuesday morning, adding: “Are you listening Republicans?”
It’s important to note that this tweet was shared by Trump the morning after his administration approved of beginning the formal transition process for Joe Biden to take office in January. He did not concede, but tweeted that the “initial protocols” would start regarding the process for Biden “in the best interest of our country.”
The president also shared several other Quaid tweets, including one that called Trump “an astonishing man of the people,” and encouraged folks to “stop the steal.”
It’s safe to say that Trump’s critics weren’t having it.
Mark Hamill asked his followers if anyone had “Donald retweeting Randy Quaid’s do-over vote idea on their 2020 Election Bingo card.”
Daily Beast editor-at-large Molly Jong-Fast noted that Trump has entered the “Randy Quaid phase of his presidency.”
Dan Pfeiffer, cohost of Pod Save America, wrote: “Trump demanding that Republicans listen to the political advice of Randy Quaid is pretty funny.”
Producer Kim Sherrell said, “Nothing says “It’s over and I’ve thoroughly given up” quite like retweeting Randy Quaid,” adding the hashtag “Rock Bottom.”
Democratic strategist Adam Parkhomenko chimed in, “Randy Quaid? Is it possible trump is an even bigger f**king loser than I thought?”
“Big morning for Randy Quaid,” White House reporter for The Associated Press Jonathan Lemire joked.
CNN Commentator Keith Boykin pointed out that Trump has shared various posts this morning from Quaid, and has not commented on the hundreds of thousands of deaths in the country from the coronavirus pandemic. “Donald Trump, the lame duck President of the United States, spent the morning retweeting five different posts from actor Randy Quaid and zero posts about the 260,000 Americans who have died from coronavirus,” Boykin wrote.
As of publishing, there have been over 12 million reported coronavirus cases in the United States. Over 258,000 Americans have died from the virus.
