Masters Contender Smylie Kaufman Gives Leonard Fournette Early Heisman Boost

Kaufman, who played his collegiate golf at LSU, has “#7 For Heisman @ LSU" in the Tigers’ purple and gold colors inscribed on the back of his club.

Fournette was the heavy favorite to win the Heisman throughout much of the 2015 season before falling out of contention and not even getting an invite to the award presentation in New York. He finished sixth in the voting. Alabama’s Derrick Henry, of course, won it.

Fournette, along with Clemson quarterback Deshaun Watson and Stanford running back Christian McCaffrey are the early favorites for next season’s award.

With Kaufman paired with defending Masters champion Spieth on Sunday atop a leaderboard replete with stars — albeit in the absence of Tiger Woods — this is about as good promotion as Fournette could ask for in April.
