Because of that, the tournament no longer looks like a runaway for Scottie Scheffler, the No. 1 player in the world. He left some daylight for Australia’s Cameron Smith.

Scheffler, who began the day with a five-stroke lead, appeared as if he would maintain his hold atop the leaderboard. However, after four bogeys on the second nine, including a salvaging bogey on a chaotic 18th hole, Scheffler is just three up on Smith, who shot a 4-under 68, the best round of any player on Saturday.

Scheffler and Smith will be paired together on Sunday.

“It’ll be a fight to finish,” Masters champion and CBS commentator Nick Faldo said of Sunday’s final round.

Sungjae Im, who was the leader after Round 1, is also within striking distance at -4.

Tiger Woods looked uncomfortable Saturday. He finished +6 on the day and is now +7 for the tournament.
