Lara is known for beating world champion Josh Warrington in 2021. He was supposed to fight Leigh Wood on September 24 for the WBA featherweight title, but Wood had to back out due to a torn bicep. Now, Lara returns to Mexico, where he competed in 21 of his first 22 fights.
“I still wish to become world champion, none of what has happened has stopped me from it,” Lara said in a release. “It’s been two years since I last fought in Mexico City, and I am so excited to be back with my people. I want to give them an overwhelming win and to hope I get the promised World title opportunity.”
He will fight in the famous Plaza de Toros facility in Mexico City. Legendary boxers that have fought within it include Julio Cesar Chavez.
