According to the Baton Rouge Advocate, the teams had until 1 a.m. ET to restart the game, but the threat of ongoing thunderstorms caused LSU’s first cancellation of a game since 1918.

“It boiled down to player safety,” LSU athletics director Joe Alleva announced. “At the end of the day, we have to be concerned about the players’ welfare. We’d need a full, 30-minute warmup. We just had a lightning strike now. We’d have to wait 29 minutes and then have a 30-minute warmup.”
The game was scoreless and will not be made up. All stats recorded before delay will not count.
No. 14 LSU will now play an 11-game season, similar to what Florida experienced last season when a matchup with Idaho was canceled because of weather.
McNeese State will keep the $500,000 guarantee for playing the Tigers despite the cancellation.
