In an interview with NEWSWEEK, Jones alleged that officials who transferred McVeigh from Noble County Courthouse in Perry, Okla., killed the phone lines when McVeigh tried to reach a lawyer. Jones also claimed they refused McVeigh’s request for a bulletproof vest when they escorted him from jail. “It was like they were hoping Jack Ruby would come out,” Jones said. Undersheriff Raymond Henry denied the allegations.
