The show is again set in the fictional Hartley High, and this version follows a young teen named Amerie who reveals to the school all the sexual exploits of her classmates.
Amerie becomes a pariah at Hartley High, and she must work towards improving herself and regaining the respect of her fellow students while navigating other aspects of life such as love, sex, and heartbreak.
The original version of Heartbreak High aired in Australia from 1994 to 1999 for seven seasons.
It followed a number of different students at Hartley High in its first five seasons, before moving the story to another fictional school Hartley Heights for the final two.

Meet the Fresh-Faced Actors of Netflix’s ‘Heartbreak High’ Cast
Netflix’s reboot is an eight-episode series that was written by Hannah Carroll Chapman, and it is set to be released Wednesday.
Ayesha Madon takes on the title role of Amerie, and the actor has appeared in The Moth Effect prior to landing the lead role in Heartbreak High.
Amerie bonds with Darren, a queer, nonbinary student who is played by James Majoos, a nonbinary actor making their debut in the show. Chloe Hayden plays their best friend Quinni, who is neurodivergent.
Asher Yasbincek plays Harper, one of the students who has a falling-out with Amerie over her actions at their high school. Yasbincek has appeared in The Heights and The Wilds.
Josh Heuston, meanwhile, plays Dusty, who is bisexual and in a relationship with Harper. The actor was in Thor: Love and Thunder as one of the companions of Zeus (played by Russell Crowe).
Other cast members include Gemma Chua-Tran, Sherry-Lee Watson, Will McDonald, and Bryn Chapman-Parish.
In an interview with Marie Claire Australia, Madon said that any teen viewers who give the show a try might not want to do so in the company of their parents.
She told the magazine: “Knowing that my grandma is going to watch me is making me nervous. I would say, teenagers… don’t watch it with your parents. It would be the most awkward thing ever.”
