There was no winner of the Mega Millions jackpot which has now rolled over, pushing up the grand prize for Tuesday night’s draw to an estimated $101 million, with a cash option of $76.5 million.
There was also no winner of the $1 million given to the lucky ticket holder who is able to match five numbers. There were 12 people who matched four numbers and the Mega Ball, earning them at least $10,000, and three of them managed to quadruple their winnings because they used the Megaplier, which was X4.
There were 203 players who won $500 last night by matching four numbers and 29 of them used the Megaplier to win $2,000. More than 500 players won $200 by matching three numbers and the Mega Ball and 102 of these players quadrupled their prizes to $800 with the Megaplier.
Hundreds of thousands of players got smaller prizes in last night’s Mega Millions lottery. More than 382,000 players won prizes ranging from $2 to $40 by matching various combinations of numbers from just the Mega Ball to three numbers using the Megaplier.
The next Mega Millions lottery drawing will take place on March 24 at 11 p.m. ET.
How to enter Mega Millions
To enter the Mega Millions lottery, players can buy a ticket from a licensed lottery retailer up to around one to two hours before the draw, though sales deadlines vary by jurisdiction.
The idea is to choose five numbers between one and 70 for the white balls and one number between one and 25 for the gold Mega Ball. Players can choose the numbers themselves or have the lottery terminal select them randomly.
There is the option to add the Megaplier to the Mega Millions lottery ticket for an additional $1 per play. The Megaplier number is randomly selected just before the drawing and will either be X2, X3, X4, or X5.
If a player wins a prize while using the Megaplier, their prize will be multiplied. The Megaplier number is chosen from a pool of 15 balls, five are marked with X2, six with X3, three with X4 and one with X5.
Watch out for scams
This week, Mega Millions issued a warning about scams in which the brand’s logo is being used to promise prizes to those who respond to official-looking emails or texts.
One scam is called the Mega Millions “International Official Lottery,” which links to the “Official Anniversary Lottery Site” and has a 25th Anniversary logo. It claims to offer a cash prize of $24,780 but only upon payment of a fee.
Mega Millions said that there is no such thing as a Mega Millions “international” lottery and so no prize is available because it can only be sold in the United States and only by participating lotteries.
“The only way to win is to first purchase a ticket from one of these lotteries; if you haven’t purchased a ticket, you haven’t won. And there is never a fee to claim a real lottery prize,” Mega Millions said on its website.
