The Duke and Duchess of Sussex left Archie at home as they visited a shop near their Santa Barbara home.

A member of their team arranged a quiet time with staff when they would be able to make a discreet visit without being mobbed by fans, according to an employee.

They then picked up their favorite of the trees on offer before heading home.

In an account confirmed by Newsweek, Twitter user James wrote: “Meghan and Prince Harry came into my work today and we sold them their Christmas Tree.

“We had our lot empty when they got there- their agent promoted them a good time to come instead of us shutting it down.

“There was one family in there and their stoked little son ran through trees up to Harry and asked if he worked here not knowing who that is.”

He added: “They seem like very nice people honestly.

“Meghan sounds very kind and Harry sounded and acted like a chill lad honestly.

“I’m really glad they liked our trees. We got the best we could get from Wa. Very appreciative :)”

Meghan and Harry are yet to make any announcements about how they will spend Christmas. However, they have been moving around little since the pandemic started.

In March they moved to Los Angeles. They bought a mansion in Montecito, Santa Barbara, in June, moving in at the start of July.

They have made no known trips back to the U.K. to see Prince Harry’s family, though the duke was in touch with relatives regularly over the summer after Meghan had a miscarriage.

The duke and duchess had a quiet Thanksgiving at home, enjoying a traditional meal with vegetables from their garden.

A Sussex source told Newsweek at the time: “They are going to have a quiet dinner at home and are looking forward to celebrating their first American Thanksgiving in the states as a family.

“They plan to enjoy a homecooked meal with traditional Thanksgiving dishes, including recipes made with fresh vegetables from their garden.”

The prince held video calls with the royals to mark birthdays earlier in the year and may well choose a similar path to sharing his first U.S. Christmas with his family.

Meghan may also want to take the opportunity to spend Christmas with her mother.

The couple may also be moved to reflect on their year—as last Christmas they were yet to publicly announce their decision to quit as senior working royals.
