Bastardo was one of the most consistent relievers in baseball last year. He finished the season 4-1 with 2.98 ERA and 1.13 WHIP for the Pirates.

The Mets possess one of the best pitching staffs in MLB. But it’s a young rotation, so adding a veteran like Bastardo should help ease manager Terry Collins’ mind when he decides to take out his starters early in the season.
