“It was the best decision for my future and my family,” Edgin said (via Mets website). “The Mets stood behind me 100 percent. I’m disappointed, because we have a heck of a team. My mindset is to be ready to go on Opening Day, 2016.”

Edgin was something of a breakout last season for the Mets, posting a 1.32 ERA in 27 1/3 innings (47 appearances) with 28 strikeouts.

Although tests showed Edgin’s ulnar collateral ligament was stretched and not torn, Edgin instead opted for surgery.
