The Michigan coach — who has introduced national satellite football camp tours, a “Signing of the Stars” recruiting event and annual trips to European hotspots like Rome and Paris — has now wondered aloud about preferred compensation for his players.

“We’re just wondering if it’s possible. We don’t know if it is yet. If we do another series, we’re just asking the question. I want to see if there’s something that can be there for them.”

Harbaugh in the past has said he’s against paying college football players — but only because of the possibility their scholarship could be considered a taxable benefit.

“I think that 1 percent (of high school football players) that is able to play college football to get their education and get their degree is what’s best for them,” Harbaugh said. “That’s a lot and it should be valued as such. I worry about making them employees for the biggest reason, I believe, is because of that ability to be taxed.”

“And some of those losses,” Harbaugh said, “I don’t think I could watch them again.”
