“There is no current danger to the community,” Middleborough Police Chief Joseph Perkin said in a statement.

While the incident is still under investigation, police said during a press conference that the suspect was not from the area. More information will be released after the suspect is processed.

“We’re extremely thankful that no one was injured in this incident,” Chief Jospeh Perkins said in a statement. “I want to commend the tremendous response by our law enforcement partners and others who helped to quickly set up a perimeter and search that led to the apprehension of this dangerous individual.”

“This was not an easy response given the heavy rain from the storm and it was great work by our officer who spotted the suspect in the woods, leading to his arrest,” he added.

The suspect was found near a large apartment complex at around 11:30 a.m. Friday. The suspect was not from the area, police said.

The suspect is still being processed and the incident is still under investigation.

“I commend the officers for standing in this [rain] and protecting the community,” Chief Joseph Perkins told reporters.

So far, police said the suspect acted alone when he fired shots at a window at the Department of Transportation facility from across the road.

“I’m not sure if it’s the window of a vehicle or a window of the building,” Perkins said.

Police said a weapon was recovered and restated that there were no injuries reported.

The shelter-in-place advisory has been lifted and roads are beginning to open up again.

Chief Joseph Perkins told reporters that he will release updates later once they know more information.

A spokesman for the Middleborough Police said the suspect is “no longer any danger to the public.”

The police search through the woods lasted over two hours, according to WCVB.

Additionally, John Guilfoil Public Relations confirmed that the shooting happened outside the Massachusetts Department of Transportation public works depot.

Approximately four to five shots were fired inside the facility but there are no injuries reported.

The suspect was described as a “light-skinned Black male or Asian male, approximately 5 feet 10 inches tall, wearing a bucket hat.”

“The suspect is believed to be armed and dangerous,” the statement said. “Anyone who believes they see someone fitting this description should call 911. Do not approach the man.”
